Towns
Admittedly, towns tend to be a bit smaller than the cities. But there are many more of them, and their people thrive just as well.
Mines
Mines are risky places to be, even for miners. Cave-ins are common. Many valuable resources can only be gotten from them, though, which makes the risk worth it for most.
 
Caves
Caves. You always have to be careful with them. Who knows who or what might be living inside. But they can be great places to find shelter. Some have tunnels which can lead to springs.
