Combat here is turn-based. For every post, a character gets one turn. This turn can be used in one of four ways.
-Dodge
-Block
-Attack
-Summon Familiar
A Dodge is when your character moves out of the way of an opponent's attack. This uses up one of your SPD points. Remember, you have a limited number of those per battle. When you run out, you can't Dodge or Block any more.
A Block is more complicated. Your character can partially or completely block an attack. Be realistic! Claws or a sword won't stop a fireball. This is mostly for those fighting physical weapons with physical weapons. A complete block OR two partial blocks will use up a SPD point. Partial blocks stop half of the attack damage instead of the full attack damage.
An Attack is an offensive move. It can be by an animal, a weapon, or a spell. A character's attack points are added to the attack points of the weapon, spell, or move they use(if any). Then the other character's total defense points (from their base defense, weapon, spells, etc) are subtracted from that amount. That is the total damage the attack will do to the other character. If a character runs out of MP, they will be unable to use magical attacks, including summoning familiars.
Summon Familiar is an option only available for mages who have purchased a familiar. While summoning a familiar, a mage will be unable to dodge, block, or attack. Summoning a familiar in a battle is not necessary if the mage had summoned the familiar before the battle. Familiars also get a turn every post to use in one of the other three ways. They use their own stats. If they run out of HP, they will disappear and cannot be summoned again until after the battle.
If a character runs out of HP, they will be either knocked unconscious or killed, depending on what the players of both characters decide. Please only kill off characters for major plot purposes, as they cannot be brought back to life. Because of this, a character should really consider fleeing if they find themselves low on HP, or they will be at the mercy of their opponent should they fall. When mages run out of HP, their familiars disappear.
Please be fair with your combat! If you and another member get into a disagreement about the battle or the outcome, a staff member will step in. Staff have the final word. It is usually best to decide on the outcome of a battle beforehand.
NPC battles are also possible. In these battles, a member-played character fights against a NPC person or creature run by a staff member. To have one of these battles, tag a staff member using the @tagged system with their username. Please also mention that you would like an NPC battle in the post somehow. It may take time for the staff member to respond, so please be patient! Please also have only one NPC battle going for each member at one time. Sometimes a different staff member may respond.
