Oneia is a large island continent. That is what explorers have come to believe, at least. For an island, it is fairly big. It boasts forests, beaches, and tall mountain ranges. People live in all of those places. Most of it is ruled by one government and considered one country, but some parts of it are Druidic lands. Those will be discussed in another topic.
The mountains are tall enough that they usually have snow all year, and that is helped by Oneia's colder climate. Most have forests and rivers made from melting snow. Snow avalanches are common, but the mountains themselves are fairly stable. They are full of caves and tunnels, leading to much warmer interiors and sometimes springs.
Forests cover Oneia. The only places they do not usually touch are the tops of the tallest mountains and the sand beaches by the sea. Freshwater lakes and rivers are scattered across the continent. The plants and animals of the forests differ across the continent.
Beaches of Oneia are scattered along the edges of the continent where it meets the ocean. They are covered with sand and sometimes shells.

Resources [googlefont=lobster] Oneia is rich with resources that the people use to stay alive. Every region has something different, allowing for trade among the people. The mountains are rich with minerals. Many of the caves and tunnels there are parts of mines, and there are many mining villages. Coal, iron, and copper mines are prevalent, though there are also mines for silver, gold, tin, and precious gemstones. One special mineral that the mines produce is a crystal called Arcan (plural: Arcana) that can be used as a conduit and storage material for magical energy. Rock quarries can be found here. Some of the springs (all freshwater) have healing properties. Timber is also farmed in the mountains, though more so in the forests. Wild animals may be hunted here as long as the land is not claimed by Druids. The forests have many diverse species of plants that make excellent resources (more on that in the Flora and Fauna post). They have fruit trees that give fruit. The lakes and rivers are used both for fishing and for freshwater sources. Hunting is allowed in all forests not claimed by the Druids. Timber is one of the main resources here, and the cleared land is used mainly for farmland for small homesteads and towns. The beaches have important resources as well. Many of the towns here are fishing towns, and they fish and hunt sea creatures. They purify their drinking water by boiling it and collecting the steam, letting them sell the salt left behind. Not many plants grow here, so they have to trade for most of their vegetables. Shells make for pretty jewelry. Though most days have little breeze, windmills and water wheels can provide energy for different mechanisms.

Flora [googlefont=lobster] Diverse species of plants grow in different regions of Oneia. Not much grows in the mountains. Its trees are usually fir trees, tall and thin. There are also pine trees. Other than those, there are very few plants. Farming is not something that succeeds up there unless it is tree farming, and even then, trees take a long time to grow. One interesting thing about plant-like species in mountain caves is their tendencies to glow. Often, mushrooms and flowers will glow for several hours after being picked, making them decent light sources. The beaches are also very low on plant life. There are palm trees scattered across them that can be used for shade, and there are also some fruit trees that produce more tropical fruits. It is hard to make anything grow in their sand. Most of the plants are found underwater in the form of seaweed. There are also reefs that aren't quite plants but look pretty anyway. The forests are by far the most diverse in terms of plant life. Their trees are thick and tall, with large leaves. Many varieties of fruits and vegetables can be grown in the fertile soil, provided that enough trees have been cut down as to give them light and that they are close enough to water. Some are tasty and nutritious while others are poisonous. Some people have also found the rare carnivorous plant in forests, so watch out! Fauna [googlefont=lobster] Oneia's wildlife originally came from the portal, at least for the most part. But the magic in the land has changed them, and they are no longer as they once were. More docile animals have become wilder. Wilder animals have become more docile. And then there's the way that many of them can bond with strong mages and become their familiars. (But that knowledge can be found in the Stats board under Mages.) The mountains have the hardier creatures. They are thick furred to protect them from the cold. Most of the creatures who roam there are prey. Goats, bears, and elk are probably the more peaceful creatures, as they have grown calmer around humans, content to be their companions. They can be fiercely loyal. Bats and bugs can almost always be found in caves, and they stay away from humans. But the mountains are also filled with fiercer and more dangerous creatures. Rats have grown in size and become carnivorous, and their sharp teeth are covered in bacteria. They stay in caves and mines for the most part. Wolves have become more daring, and they are now able to jump higher and run faster. In packs, both rats and wolves can be very deadly. Traveling alone for the most part, big cats from before the migration have grown fangs like the sabertooth tigers and are extremely strong. Elk, goats, rats, bats, and fish are considered the main prey animals here. The forests have stealthier creatures. Deer are common there, but their pelts now have swirls and spots of color, and some say that they can talk to humans telepathically. Rabbits have multicolored pelts as well, and eye contact with them will freeze a person or animal in place until they look away. Foxes coats have turned grey and black, and they can move with complete silence and seemingly melt into the shadows. The most commonly found creatures are cats, who are like modern housecats except for highly increased intelligence and the trait bonded ones have that allows them to use their human's magical element. Many varieties of birds live in the trees. Most of these creatures eat fish, bugs, and/or plants. The creatures you have to watch out for are the bugs, some which carry deadly diseases; the snakes, which have become massive and are almost always cunning and venomous; and the boars, who have grown feral with huge tusks and will attack any humans they meet. The beaches have creatures that can run fast. Prey animals there are usually crustaceans, bugs, sea birds, and small rodents. There is only really one land animal that is dangerous to humans. Horses are fast and strong, and very wild. They travel in herds, and each horse will protect the herd from any possible danger, including humans. The sea is another matter. Fish are the common prey for animals. Otters play in the sea and eat crustaceans, and they have gained the ability to breathe underwater. Sharks with teeth like razors and giant sea snakes can do a great deal of harm to humans. There are also stories about large fish, mammals, mermaids, and sea monsters who live in the deep sea. None have been proven, but they are encouraged by the fact that nobody who has sailed far from Oneia has ever returned. There are other beings that are classified as creatures, but nobody is really sure what they are. Some people have seen floating lights late at night that wander every region. Rumors say that those are the spirits of their ancestors. Other rumors say that they are magic in a physical form. Nobody has ever tried to communicate with them.

Climate [googlefont=lobster] Oneia's climate differs from region to region. It hardly ever rains on the continent, and the breeze is usually calm. The mountains are always cold and frequently have blizzards. The sky over them is usually cloudy. Snow is always on the ground, and underneath it is usually just dirt and rock. The forests are cool and sometimes have snow. The plants are watered through rivers and lakes, both aboveground and underground. The beaches are the warmest places on Oneia. The sun always beats down on them, and they never have snow, save for once or twice during the winter months. Once every few years, large storms come from the sea and pelt them with huge amounts of rain that can cause the area to flood. These storms are usually what bring rain to the rest of Oneia.

Travel [googlefont=lobster] Travel can be tricky in Oneia with the differing regions. But as long as you know what you're doing, you'll probably survive. First, you need to know whose territory you're moving through. A Druid passing through Citizen's Domain will probably be distrusted and at worst be barred from towns and cities. However, a Citizen passing through Druidic Lands will probably pay for the mistake with their life. Next, you need to make sure you're prepared for that specific region. Those in the mountains will need thick clothes that cover more of them. They will also need some kind of heat source. The forests don't really need any specific gear. With the beaches though, water is a must-have. Sunburn can also greatly harm those who don't take proper precautions from it. Lastly, know the area you're going through. Carts might not be able to go places without roads. Snowy mountains might need sleds for faster travel. Wild animals might attack the unwary. If you get lost, you might never be able to find your way.
